Episode Six: Ania Ziemirska - Fabric Button Magnets!

Alright Everyone!

I have some good news and some bad news.

Good News: I'm back with another episode of Indie Craft Attack!
Bad News: This is my last episode of Indie Craft Attack! In this format anyway!

I have now moved to Belfast Northern Ireland, and thus unable to continue with my wee project of finding Canadian bands willing enough to join me for some crafting! I suppose I'll just have to brainstorm to see what else I can do with this crafty show!

But let's just hold on to the good news for now shall we?

This episode features a Toronto singer-songwriter by the name of Ania Ziemirska! Miss Ziemirska is an acoustic artist with an edgy pop side, and is a pretty crafty gal as well! Currently you can find Ania playing shows in and around the Toronto area in support of her EP "I Was A Girl".

Even with her busy schedule, between shows and moving into her new pad in Toronto, Ania joined me last August for some crafting!

A few months back I discovered the wonders of Button Cover Kits and haven't looked back! You can make anything with this nifty kit! Magnets! Push pins! Brooches! Anything you want! So, I decided that it was time to teach you all how to make your own!

Gather up your supplies, and join Ania and I as we relax, chat and make some cute crafts! Perfect for Christmas gift giving time!

Well folks!

That's it!

I suppose this is possibly the end of Indie Craft Attack as we know it!!

Thanks to those who have taken the time to watch my wee episodes. But fear not, I have another project in the works!

Thanks for watching folks!

Keep Smiling!!

Episode Five: Grant Lawrence - Duct Tape Bookmarks!

Hi Everyone!

So it's been a little while since my last episode, but I'm back with another great one! This time it's with CBC Radio 3 Host Grant Lawrence! For those who may not know, not only is Mr. Lawrence a host at CBC, but also a published author AND former front man of the 90s Canadian punk band The Smugglers.  Exciting eh? So when he agreed to join me during breakfast at the Home County Folk Festival in London Ontario to do some crafting, I was delighted!

For this episode we create some lovely bookmarks out of duct tape! Who needs to buy a bookmark when you can customize and make your own? I thought this would be a fitting craft since Grant wrote a lovely memoir entitled "Adventures in Solitude". If you haven't read it yet, I strongly suggest you do! It's filled with wit and laughter with each turn of a page! If you do decide to read it, you should make your very own duct-tape bookmark to keep your place!

This episode was shot at a cute little eatery called The Bag Lady in London Ontario. It's a super cute place, and perfect for a little indie crafting! I should also note that this was shot during the Home County Folk Festival, and you may see some CBC Radio 3 bloggers in the background! It was a lovely weekend, and I hope you all enjoy the episode!

Want to make your own super cool duct-tape bookmark?! CLICK HERE for instructions! Look for "Episode Five - Grant Lawrence Duct Tape Bookmarks!". If you make your own Duct-Tape bookmark let me know and send in a photo! I'd love to see your creations and I'll post them on the site too! You can send them to monica@indiecraftattack.com!

Episode Four: YUNIOSHI - Recycled T-Shirt Bags!

Hello Everyone!

Finally, the LONG awaited Yunioshi Indie Craft Attack episode that you've all be waiting for!
This episode was shot all the way back in March during the Canadian Music Week Festival when Yunioshi were in town to play The Painted Lady!

Anna and Rob of Yunioshi were so kind to invite me up to their rooms at The Gladstone Hotel where we did some crafting on a bed! Thankfully the craft didn't involve any hot glue or sparkles, so the bed was saved!

If you don't already know, Yunioshi are a four-piece band from Nottingham, England! I know I know, you were expecting some Canadian band, but I thought why not switch it up a bit! I met Rob back in June at the North by North East festival in Toronto where he played with fellow Yunioshi band mate (also Rob) in Spaceships are Cool, another Nottingham band! Apparently Nottingham has a thriving music scene, who knew!

Yunioshi are a high energy band filled with lots of dance beats, and pop tunes that will get any crowd dancing and sweating in no time! I had the chance to see them rock out at The Painted Lady in Toronto to a packed and sweaty crowd! It was brilliant! Thankfully Toronto didn't have to miss out on Yunioshi's trademark tradition of handing out baked goods during their gigs. They were able to find some lovely mini cupcakes to hand out to the crowd! Maybe one day I'll see a gig in the UK and have freshly baked homemade Yunioshi cakes! A girl can dream right?! Yunioshi are a very creative bunch! They bake, sing, play, and even craft on a monthly basis! Just watch their episode to find out why!

My Canadian Music Week Experience!

Hey Everyone!

How's it going!?

I hope you're all doing very well ;)

I had a super time last week during Canadian Music Week here in Toronto, Ontario. Thank you so much to NxEW for talking me into being a guest blogger for them during the festival! I wrote a wee article about my experience so if you'd like to read it click here! Let's just say, I met Fred Penner, and I may have even danced on stage with him! I had a great time, let's put it that way!

I also hung out with some amazing UK musicians from the bands Yunioshi & Spaceships are Cool. I met these lads and ladies at NxNE last summer and was happy to see them back in Toronto :) I finally got to check out a Yunioshi show which was awesome! They played to a packed house on the Friday night at The Painted Lady. It was brilliant! Plus, there was cake! Oh, and perhaps I should also mention there will be a future Indie Craft Attack episode featuring the lovely Anna and Rob of Yunioshi, so stay tuned!

But to tie you over, here's a cute video of my new favourite Yunioshi tune "When":

Cheers for now!

Monica

Cross between "Mr. Dressup, Indie Craft Attack & LOST" - Grant Lawrence's Latest Home Movie

Hello Folks!

So, I was browing the twitter and facebook world today only to find that Grant Lawrence, host at CBC Radio 3 and author of "Adventures from Solitude", posted his latest home movie which is apparently a "cross between Mr. Dressup, Indie Craft Attack and LOST".

Well folks, check it out yourself! What do you think?! Perhaps Grant and Jill should stop by the craft attack corner and do a workshop in homemade wooden sign posts?

What do you do when CBC 3 sends you a tiny t-shirt? Make Art!

Hi Everyone!

So, I've been thinking about making another craft in support of my Top 60 CBC Radio 3 Searchlight nomination, when suddenly it dawned on me! T-shirt art! Here's where it all began...

A few years ago I won my very first CBC Radio 3 Bucky T-Shirt. I was so excited! When it arrived, my mother called me and said "Moni, I think the t-shirt is to small for you". I exclaimed "What? No! I told them my size! This can't be right!. When I arrived home, I was sad to discover that yes, the t-shirt was in fact too small for me. I was very disappointed. The t-shirt was then given a home in my dresser, where it was laid to rest...until today.

I've been trying to figure out how I could use my Bucky t-shirt in some sort of creative craft. I went to the craft store today and purchased a wooden embroidery hoop. I had no idea why I bought it, but thought "Maybe I could use this", and I did!

This is what happened:

Thoughts?!!?

It was really simple, and I highly recommend you create your own piece of art! It will surely dress up any cork board, wall or office space!

So, that being said, have you voted for Indie Craft Attack in the CBC Radio 3 Searchlight competition yet? You have 2 more days to vote, and the Top 30 will be revealed on Thursday, Feb 17! Just visit this link: !

Thanks for your support!!

Happy Crafting Everyone!

Monica
